Development of 3D sculpture

Exploration of materials.

While I was constructing 3D sculptures with wax I developed an interesting piece that is a mix between mechanical, Gothic architecture and the human form all combined into a wax piece made under ten minutes. I created this when I was bored and wanted to create something quick to go back etching a piece of work for printmaking.

 Looking back at the photograph I had an idea of expand the piece into portrait sculpture because I can develop more complex details from tools in the studio. Also, I like to have a larger scale version of the piece from clay and wax. I might get round to make it when I go back to University.

Wax making

The random creation from wax, is the bottom jaw of the human skeleton. it was created in the wax workshop but then added more when gone back to my studio space.

Another quick from created in wax of a tree with an distorted face appear on a dead tree. 

This is last wax creation was made very quickly with a different type of wax, which I forgotten the name! It was made by placing many small shaved pieces of wax, from a block of wax, and put on top one another into one piece. 

Mix media printmaking

The steel-plate was hand carved with a plasma cutter, which had an safety switch that made it difficult to us. It was an very interesting experience to use this tool, as then I came up with the idea of combining the printmaking process by turning the metal sheets into a sculpture. 




This piece was a test print without using a print press. I used a wooden board and body weight to print. This method was unsuccessful, because more pressure was needed to print, which is achieved by using a  print press. 

This was the print made in the print press. The main issue with this one was I did not add any refiner and added too much dryer, which water downed the oil then thick amounts of oil.

These are the additional steel-plate cuttings from the plasma cutter that are not ready for printmaking because they need to be flattened to work on the print press. There will be more to come, these are the once that are completed, at the mean time more to come very soon.
